Rish Outfield's reviews
I want them to make a horror movie about lawn gnomes. I'm serious here. I think it would be pretty scary.
This film wasn't really that scary. It was disturbing at times, and prequels are always cool (well, I'm sure there are some that aren't, but none come to mind--write me with an example), but it wasn't as eerie as Amityville One was (and the first one wasn't as eerie as a film about lawn gnomes would be, let's be honest). The monster (which they so shamelessly show on the box) was more stupid-looking than frightening, but done differently, that same monster might have generated a scare or two. Incest is disturbing to me, and there was some in here, involving the girl who played Monique in Better Off Dead. Poor kid. Shouldn't there be a hyphen in Better Off Dead?
I'd Recommend It To: See it if you want, it's actually been about a year-and-a-half since I saw this one, so I'm no longer qualified to say for sure.

The tyranist's thoughts
This one is supposed to be a prequel to the original The Amityville Horror. All I really have to say is that at least they appeared to take more license with the truth. This movie is definitely better than the first, but it still lacks. Most of what are supposed to be scares are way over the top and the tension in the family is there start to end instead of being introduced by the house. I have to believe that the son would have tried to kill everyone regardless of the houses influence.
The biggest treat was seeing Diane Franklin in an early role. She wasn't fantastic by any stretch of the imagination, but I have always had a soft spot in my heart for her since she played Monique in Better Off Dead. Of course, I'll never see Better Off Dead again without thinking 'incest.'
