Dates we were there:    7/3/99    7/25/99

Our home state.  as we headed for home on the 25th, we traveled the Pioneer Trail as closely as possible.  As can be seen on the map, this route follows I-80, I-84 and then State Road 65 through East Canyon and then down Emigration Canyon.

Cities & Places we visited

    EAST CANYON
SR 65 follows the Pioneer trail through East Canyon.  There are numerous markers along the way the describe the Pioneers final leg of their journey.

    SALT LAKE CITY
We arrived at This Is The Place State Park on Sunday so the visitors' center was not open but we enjoyed learning from the many inscriptions at the monument.  New this year is a monument to the Handcart Pioneers.  We later learned that it was dedicated just the day before as part of the Pioneer Day celebration.
One of the plaques on the monument is a list of the names of all the pioneers who were in the first group to enter the valley.  Brian's great-great grandfather, Edson Whipple, is one of them.

    SOUTH JORDAN
Home!  Arriving a day later than planned, we were both relieved and disappointed that is was over.  We had traveled over 6500 miles together and had some wonderful experiences that will be forever in our memories.  We had grown spiritually, gained a greater appreciation of our pioneer heritage, and learned that with planning and patience, a trip of this magnitude can be very enjoyable.  In fact, we have decided that over the course of the next few years, we will take similar vacations that will take us through the rest of the 50 states.  We are looking forward to next years trip through the Southwest.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our vacation web site.  We hope it was informative and worthwhile for you.  We didn't want to make it so detailed that it would be boring and yet detailed enough that it would be interesting.   We hope we have accomplished that.  We know there is room for improvement so please let us know what you think.  Things we did right, things that could have been better and even things that should not have been at all!  We will do this same type of thing next year (in a more timely manner, of course!) and so your opinions will be helpful.
