Dates we were there:   7/3/99     7/24/99    7/25/99

Wyoming was both the first state visited and the last (outside of Utah, of course).  On the morning of the 3rd, we just drove through on our way to Denver, Colorado.
On the way home, we made several stops at pioneer trail sites, had a great dinner at a Mom & Pop diner, and spent a night in Rawlins.

Cities & Places we visited

    PIONEER TRAIL SITES
    Register Cliff
This is an interesting place where many of the pioneers 'left their mark' by carving their name into  the rock wall.   Unfortunately, so have many other people since.  It's a shame that people can't leave things like this alone.

    Guernsey Ruts Site
Near Guernsey is a site where some wagon ruts can still be seen in the rocks.  Some of these are more than just ruts.  The rocks have actually been carved away so the wagons could get through.  It's quite fascinating.  We stopped and explored the site for a while.

    Independence Rock
A huge rock bulging up out of the middle of the desert.  Another major landmark along the pioneer trail.  We stopped only briefly.

    Martin's Cove
This is the spot where the Willie & Martin Handcart Company took refuge after being stranded by an early winter storm.  The Church has a visitors' center there and offers handcart treks to the cover and back.   We arrived too late to do this, though.

    GRANDMA'S RESTAURANT
On recommendation of the missionaries at Martin's Cove, we stopped at this little Mom & Pop restaurant about 10 miles south of Martin's Cove in the middle of nowhere.  We enjoyed a very nice home-made roast beef dinner

    RAWLINS
We spent our final night at the Rawlins Motel.  A far cry from the Hilton in St. Louis.  We had not made advance reservations and, well, the money was about gone.  So we just found a place to stay and called it good (sort of!)
