How To Become A Ham

A good source of information on how to get started and eventually receive your Amateur Radio License is the Utah Amateur Radio Club's meetings. Each meeting has a special session that starts early at 7:00 PM, a half-hour before the general meeting, that will explain the process and answer any questions for all new and soon-to-be hams. Check meeting information for the details about the next one.

One of the first steps toward getting a license is to obtain the book Now You're Talking published by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). It tells all about amateur radio and contains all the information necessary to get a first license. One source of the book is the club's “book lady,” Fred DeSmet, who is available at meetings and can be contacted by phone.

Another information source is the American Radio Relay League's (ARRL) “Welcome to Ham Radio” page. Check it out.
